With Liberty Village already packed with condos,Lifetime Developments' latest projects aims to transform King and Dufferin, an intersection bordering the formerly industrial enclave.

On July 20, Lifetime Developments, which is behind projects such as the Four Seasons Hotel and the Liberty Market Building, submitted rezoning and site plan approval applications to the City of Toronto. The company wants to build condo towers at 1221 and 1182 King St. W. Initial proposals put the buildings at 19 and 21 storeys, respectively.

In current renderings, each condo will offer three levels of underground parking as well as ground and second floor retail spaces. The project will also provide nearly 750 residential units. Currently, the relatively underdeveloped intersection houses two banks, the only remaining downtownIsland Foodslocation and some other fast food joints.

Whether Island Foods or any other of the existing businesses will be able to relocate to the ground level of the new condo towers is unknown at this point. Either way, the existing locations will be toast as soon as construction gets underway.
