In order to make Toronto's transit system more accessible, the TTC is doing away with some island streetcar stops. It's spending $1.5 million to bring some of these stops curb-side, which will make it much easier for all people to get around the city.

According toMetro News, the TTC will start making the switch in June to the streetcar stop at College and Bathurst; afterwards it'll move on to College and Bay.

"Island stops will be removed only when a rebuild to make them accessible isn't possible because of road narrowing," TTC spokesperson Brad Ross tells us via email. That's what's happening at intersections such as College and Bathurst, for instance.

The TTC will keep islands that can be made accessible to both people and cars.

Along with this, the TTC is making some changes to how it does public service announcements.

As theToronto Star reports, Danny Nicholson, who's been recording TTC PSAs for about 20 years, is retiring today.
