NEWS

Starting in June,The Parkdale Tiny Fleawill be held on Saturdays from 10am until 5pm at the corner of Elm Grove and Queen Street West. With stalls selling anything from records to vintage hats, this mini flea market is a fun place to peruse merchandise on a relaxing Saturday. And if you don't need any more stuff, they are currently looking for vendors! Contact them at parkdale.tiny.flea@gmail.com.

Today,Victorinox, the company behind the Swiss Army knife, opens its first North American flagship store at 95A Bloor Street. Along with its famous knives and pocket tools, the store will sell watches, clothing, luggage, towels, and other practical outdoorsy doodads.

EVENTS/PARTIES

The 28th annualBeaches Arts & Crafts Showwill be held atKew Gardens Parkon June 9th and 10th, from 10 am until 6pm. If you're interested in quality handmade products including art, photography, jewellery, leatherwork, clothing, ceramics, and more, this free-entrance show features 150 Canadian artists and designers who have perfected these crafts. It's likeEtsywithout the postal service wait!

Marilyn Brooks- the acclaimed Canadian fashion-designer-turned-painter - will be giving a seminar at theMcMichael Galleryon June 9th at 1:30 pm. Hear about her life story and love affair with art and fashion, as well as get advice on how to make your dreams a reality. Register at artscouncil@yorkscene.com. $10 Entry fee.

As theWorld Wide Knit in Public Dayapproaches,Wise Daughtersis planning to host their knitting party on June 9th from 9:30am until 11:30am, complete with a free breakfast and live jazz piano. The day's knitting events continue at Nathan Phillips' Square until 4pm, thanks to theDowntown Knit Collective.

On June 12th from 6pm until 9pm,Jonathan + Oliviaat 49 Ossington Avenue will be hosting a launch party for their first t-shirt collection "FAMILY." The project came together with the help of 8 collaborators - including Toronto's own Brendan Canning fromBroken Social Scene,Bad Daymagazine, and artistDerrick Hodgson. The t-shirts will be sold in limited quantity, and all profits will benefitSickKids Foundation.

SALES

Beyond the Rackis hosting its first ever sample sale in theCapitol Event Theatreat 2492 Yonge Street. The three-day event will run from noon until 9pm, from June 12 to June 14. Brands including - but not limited to -Prada,Marc Jacobs, andYves Saint Laurentwill be marked up to 85% off, so be prepared to snatch a pair of glorious, designer (and insanely reduced!) heels before somebody else does.

Though the recent weather has had us wondering whether or not summer is going to come (or come back) at all,The Room at The Bayalready has select spring/summer 2012 merchandise marked at up to 40% off.
