A Toronto set dresser was killed on Thursday on the set of the film Jumper in what is being called a freak accident. David Ritchie, 56, was killed while dismantling one of the science fiction film's sets when a large piece of frozen sand and gravel fell on him from above.

The stars of the film, Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson, had already relocated to Tokyo with the rest of the shoot. Doug Liman is the director of the film about a teenager who discovers he can teleport from one place to another. The Toronto portion of filming had wrapped on January 19.

I'm sure the thoughts of blogTO's staff and readers go to the family of Mr. Ritchie, who died doing his job under circumstances that would not normally be considered dangerous. In light of another recent incident on the Los Angeles set ofCharlie Wilson's War, questions are bound to arise once again about workplace safety on film sets.
