MONDAY FEBRUARY 28 / SMITH WESTERNS/ HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN ST W / $10 / 19+
I promise I don't have a bias toward Horseshoe Tavern but after already playing host to The Head and the Heart and Tennis last week, the venue begins a new week with one of the first bona fide buzz bands of 2011 -Smith Westerns. Their albumDye It Blondehas garnered heaps of praise from music writers, but these are young guys new to touring and only time will tell whether they have what it takes to become anything major. Give their album a spin and check out the video for "Weekend". And watch them live on Monday night supported by openersUnknown Mortal Orchestra.
