G20 Protests have begun
Today marked the beginning of what will likely be a week full of mirth and riots and downtown "parades."
About 200 people marched in the"All Out In Defense of the Rights of All"protest (or AOIDRA, as I like to call it) beginning at Allan Gardens this afternoon. The demonstrators from Sense of Security, a Guelph, Ontario group, attempted totake over an Esso gas stationat Dundas and Jarvis streets.
"Corporations like Esso have caused irreparable damage all over the world," Julian Ichim, an organizer for the group, told theToronto Star. "There is a lack of housing. This is our housing now."
Alas, it was only briefly their housing as police officers forced the group to leave the occupied premises. The protesters continued along Yonge streetchanting, "G20, G8. They few. We, many," and "Justice Now!"
Initially, I thought they were protesting theseven LCBO closures. That will probably be tomorrow.
