Aside from being a perfect example of the trainwreck that results from selling the name of your event to not one but two corporations,LG Fashion Week Beauty by L'Oreal Parisis Canada's premiere fashion event. Pairing known labels like Joe Fresh with the likes of Ryerson fashion students, shows throughout the week will give the city's fashion fans a glimpse of this year's styles to come. There will be a steady parade of runway shows at Fashion Week's headquarters at the Allstream Centre, but clubs and boutiques across the city are jumping on the bandwagon by throwing their own soirees. BOOKS AND LIT|Modernity Unbound: Ryerson's Inaugural Literatures of Modernity Symposium
Get your knowledge on with this symposium that crams a big topic into 11 hours of academic presentations and artistic performances. Scholars and students from the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, OCAD, McGill, SUNY Buffalo and several other Canadian institutions will explore how the idea of the modern is captured in literature and how modern literature is affected by other art forms including dance, music and theatre. Between discussion on topics like the avant-garde art of Marcel Duchamp and John Cage, ten local artists will engage the audience with performances of digital art, video projections, sculpture and dance, including a piece by the forward-thinkingBody Cartographydance group.

Probably still worth the trek though.

COMEDY|The Sweet and Sour Show: Allyson Smith and Kathleen McGee
Last year was pretty good to Western Canadian comicsAllyson SmithandKathleen McGee．满嘴脏话的麦基精心挑选了加拿大的reigning comedy king Russell Peters as the winner of Sirius Satellite Radio's Russell Peters BFF contest and has toured the country coast to coast, spreading laughter with her twisted take on the more vulgar aspects of life. A former high school teacher, Smith was so upset at herself for abandoning her dreams of entertaining that she walked into Yuk Yuk's comedy club hours after teaching her first class. It turned out to be a good decision; Smith has just taped her first special for CTV's Comedy Now and was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award last year. The ladies continue their roll tonight with a live taping of a CD for XM Radio at the Comedy Bar.

THEATRE|The Mill (Part One): Now We Are Brody
The award-winningTheatrefrontensemble is in the midst of its most ambitious project to date.The Millis a quartet of full-length plays that tells the story of several generations in a Canadian frontier town from the 17th to 19th Centuries, depicting the long-lasting effects of the violence visited on the region's original inhabitants. Inspired equally by slasher films and Canadian history textbooks, the plays are dark and haunting, and realized through some fantastically authentic set designs. As the run of the third installment, entitledthe Woods, wraps up this week, Theatrefront brings back part one for anyone who missed it. Runs til Thursday.
