MUSIC |Grave, Blood Red Throne, Pathology & Gigan @ Mod Club
If death metal is your thing, you should consider hitting the Mod Club tonight, for what is sure to be a killer lineup. Grave, a Swedish death metal group, have been together in various incarnations since the late '80s, and saw their heyday in the '90s. Blood Red Throne will bring you a Norwegian take on death metal, and this group has featured a few minor celebrities from other groups in Norway, and recently dropped their latest, "Brutalitarian Regime" to big devil horns (equals "thumbs up") from the death metal community. Pathology is also on the bill, hailing from California, and proud to represent the American death metal school at this gathering. Gigan, a hugely popular band from Chicago, is coming from the same place as the others, but aims to be more experimental and stylistically diverse, but they are ready to melt faces tonight!

ART |Unfinished Business: an exhibition of Painting in Progress
The hub on Toronto's improvised music scene, Somewhere There, expands its reach tonight with the first art show to go down at this venue. Curator Heather White has put together an exhibition that relates on many levels to the musical activity that normally takes place in this space. With an emphasis on "accentuat[ing] process", these works are experimental and cutting edge. Artist Sara Cale's collage-oriented technique, and Austin Furtak-Cole's style of "painted animation" both promise to combine wonderfully with the vibe of this space, and the performance by experimental Toronto group, Ghost Eye, who incorporate a visual element into their performance, which will go down at 8PM tonight. This is a great way to support two vibrant TO cultural scenes at once!

FUNDRAISER |Ocean Wise Sustainable Ceviche Smackdown
Ceviche is a South American invention (this is disputed, of course), where fresh raw fish is served in citrus juices that serve to marinate and preserve, and usually a good dose of spices, including chili peppers is thrown into the mix, with tasty results. Tonight at The Drake, Ocean Wise, a Vancouver-based Aquarium conservation program concerned with the world's ocean population and the perils of 'over-fishing', presents this event, with eco-conscious chefs such as Ted Corrado (C5), Cory Vitielo (The Harbord Room), Anthony Rose (The Drake Hotel), and more - presenting their take on Ceviche. Kato Wines is sponsoring this free event, and will donate proceeds from wine sales to Ocean Wise. Ivy Knight hosts.

It's the last "Sunnyside Session" of the Summer this aft at Sunnyside Pavillion on Lakeshore! Two stages of Canadian DJ talent will be working hard to move bodies: Sean Miller, Jason Hodges, Simon Jain, Balu and many more! This event will be like a huge club under the sun! No disco nap required!
