Radar: CFC's 18th Worldwide Short Film Festival, Transit of Venus at Varsity Stadium, Pioneers for Change, Meanwood

FILM|Worldwide Short Film Festival
Short flicks rule at the 18th annual Worldwide Short Film Festival, North America's largest festival of its kind for films under 40 minutes. With five full days of programming grouped into categories such as Love Hurts, War, What Is It Good For? and Laughter Without Borders, this short but sweet festival has something for everyone. Check out special showcases like Date Night, a series of romantic films screening at the CN Tower on Saturday night, and a country spotlight on Switzerland, featuring shorts by Swiss filmmakers. The festival is short--like its films--so hit the theatres before Sunday's closing awards.
Various locations 7PM $20

ASTRONOMY|Transit of Venus at Varsity Stadium
"The summit of beauty she was and Venus was her name," wrote lyrical geniuses and '80s pop duo Bananarama. Transit viewers will be welcomed into the stadium at 5:30PM to watch Venus move across the face of the sun at 6:04PM. Astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and give lectures and solar telescopes will be available to the public to view the planet as it moves. Join the astronomical bonanza!
