Radar: Heather Mallick, Toronto Review of Books Launch Party, Concert For Courtney Fundraiser, Willowdale Group of Artists' 65th Anniversary Show

BOOKS & LIT|CJFE礼物”我写我所想的:一个谈话n with Heather Mallick"
An interesting discussion with Heather Mallick will take place this evening, presented by the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, as part of the reception for their annual general meeting (taking place before this event). Mallick has a long history in Canadian journalism, having worked for the Financial Post, Toronto Sun, The Globe and Mail--her writing currently appears in the Toronto Star and The Guardian. There have also been a few instances of controversy with her writing, which seems to find her star shining even brighter among fans of her work and politics, which is decidedly left-of-centre. In addition, she has published a few books, the most recent of which isCake Or Deathfrom 2007. Her talk this evening, defiantly titled,I Write What I Thinkwill be followed by a Q & A.
Massey College - Common Room (4 Devonshire Place) 8PM

BOOKS & LIT|Toronto Review of Books Launch Party Masquerade
The Toronto Review of Books is a quarterly publication that features poetry and essays. Tonight, TRB celebrates its first year in the game, and the launch of Issue Four: the Occupy Issue. Given the issue's theme, TRB is encouraging attendees to bring masks to add a playful 'masquerade' dimension to this event.
Poetry Jazz Cafe (224 Augusta Avenue) 8PM PWYC, suggested $10 or $5 (students and arts workers)

MUSIC|Concert For Courtney Fundraiser
Four bands play the Horseshoe tonight, once again giving weight to the saying that "rock 'n' roll saves lives!" King Beez, Groopies, MIP Power Trio, and Thinly Veiled Double Entendres will get together to try to raise funds for Courtney, a 22-year old McGill undergrad student with Hodgkin's lymphoma. A special, very expensive transplant is required to save her, and these bands are hoping to help get her there. Come out and enjoy some music, and the feeling that you're contributing to someone's future in a tangible way.
Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 9PM $8

ART|Willowdale Group of Artists' 65th Anniversary Show and Sale
The Willowdale Group of Artists' 65th Anniversary Show and Sale begins today. This show will run until July 1st, and feature a wide variety of art for sale, including watercolours, oils, acrylics, and more. With free admission and parking, this is definitely a great way to spend an afternoon, and support an organization that's been encouraging art in our region since 1947.
The Papermill Gallery, Todmorden Mills (67 Pottery Road) 11AM
