Mapitat might just be the easiest way to search for an apartment in Toronto. The new site, created as a side project by the team at Toronto web site design shopPlayground, uses a slick map interface to collect rental listings from various local sites such as Craigslist and Kijiji. Launched earlier this month, Mapitat lets users sort listings by key criteria such as number of bedrooms, pet friendliness, air conditioning, balcony, laundry facilities and more. The site also lets users store favourities.

But the most fun and useful part of Mapitat just might be its price slider that ranges from $0 to $3,000 plus. A quick slide in either direction gives an instantaneous view of the number of rentals within various price points through the city. For instance, $0 - $400 currently shows roughly 200 listings mostly located outside the downtown core. Apartments that can be had for $2,500 plus return just under 300 listings, but this time predominantly in central and North Toronto.

So far, Playground offers listings search in both Toronto and San Francisco and plans to launch additional cities in the future, along with new features such as a merchant platform so landlords can purchase premium/featured listings.
