Recette

Recette has a menu full of shareable plates filled with French-influenced cuisine that hit both light and unique flavour notes, along with their twists on classic cocktails.

This is one of several establishments owned by Nav Chakravarti, who also heads other beloved Toronto bar and restaurants likeNeon TigerandOdd Seoul.

recette torontoChakravarti says that Recette is an elevated neighbourhood spot that he plans to soon turn into a supper club, where people who live in the area can treat it like a go-to location for dinner and drinks.

recette torontoThe interior of this space can best be described as minimalistic, with organized seating rows and clean-cut, simple designs that adorn the walls.

recette torontoA pink neon sign that reads "cafeteria" sits above the bar, an ode to the joke that some of the wooden booths inside the restaurant resemble canteen seats.

recette torontoThe menu here is curated by Chef Milo (not pictured here), who's also cooked forLe Phenix, but now has full creative control on what he whips up the in the kitchen at Recette.

Milo says he wants to focus on keeping dishes as simple as possible, while showcasing lots of vegetables according to the season they're being served in.

recette torontoStart off your night at Recette with one of the best tasting drinks on the menu. The Spicy Strawberry Margarita ($16.00) tastes like summer inside of a cocktail.

Tequila Blanco is the base, mixed withTriple Sec, a strawberry puree,Bird's Eye Chilli simple syrupand a salted rim.

recette torontoThe Gorgonzola Cracker ($14) may look like a bunch of crackers piled onto some veggies, but the taste extends much further than its physical description.

A house made cracker made with amaranth seed sits on top of a small pile of gorgonzola cheese that's smothered with delicious juices from a raspberry compote and Japanese mint.

recette torontoA display of Speck ($16.00) is the next plate to visit our table. This is a lightly smoked Italian cold-cut, specifically ham, that's quite thin in texture.

recette torontoOn top of it, is a layer of kumquat. This orange-like fruit that's native to South Asia, but spread on in the form of a marmalade. Expect sprinkles of scallions and malted vinegar popcorn powder, which pair nicely with the fruit's sweetness.

recette torontoAnother great cocktail option at Recette would have to be the Long Story Long ($16.00). Tasting similar to a pina colada, this refreshing blend mixes rum, coconut creme, anis flower simple syrup, and peach liqueur.

recette torontoThe next dish ($26.00) takes a tender piece of halibut fish and adorns it with delicious, yet unexpected garnishes. What looks to be bacon on top is actually called Guanciale, an Italian cured meat.

Garnishes of leek, fava beans and green grapes drape around the rest of the plate adding in a dynamic of both sweet and savoury flavours to the fish.

recette torontoLook for the pink hues beaming from the entrance of Recette's all-glass exterior, where you can check out the restaurant's vibe just by walking by on the street.
