The Social Blend is a corner cafe on Eglinton serving up caffeinated brews and Korean-style macarons.

A stylish and much-needed independent haunt located not far from the subway station, this inviting space is the perfect in-between of caffeine pit stop and study spot.

This grassy-ceilinged cafe — started by three university friends who met while rooming together at Bay and College — used to be a Sweet Jesus, so it adjoins neighbouringLa Carnita.

It's the perfect place to post up with a laptop (especially since they close at 9 p.m daily), though weekends can get busy, so don't be a table-hog.

Coffee beans come via Markham roasterHatch, and the menu runs the typical gamut from espressos ($3.20) to lattes ($4.50) with pretty designs.

A flat white goes perfectly with danishes, muffins, cookies, and croissants brought over from the Beaches bakeryLa Bastille.

Croissant options run from a basic butter ($3.50) to chocolate almond ($5).

The decadent mocha won't disappoint. If you're looking for something iced, the Americano misto is a milky, visual treat.

If you're staying away from caffeine, there's also a handful of shakers, which are basically Italian sodas made with syrup and fresh fruit.

Also available are a variety of macarons, made specially for the cafe by a baker bringing the Korean trend of chunky takes on this typically dainty French treat. You can get boxes of four for $14; nine for $29.

I have to say, as someone who doesn't swoon over macarons, the Oreo rendition (dyed blue to invoke the Cookie Monster) is unbelievably delicious and so pretty to look at.

There's also the green matcha Kit Kat-stuffed macaron with matcha cream, or an injeolmi-flavoured version too.

You'll come for the coffee but you might end up staying for the relaxing reprieve from busy Eglinton. A counter seat facing out the window is a pretty sweet spot for people watching, too.
